INTERMEDIATE 2
Here, we will begin tackling the more complex aspects of chess. We will be learning about positional imbalances such as a space advantage or weak squares. We will learn strategies how to target a pawn weakness, or how to occupy a weak square. We will be examining how to play in closed positions versus open positions and will review games of masters of strategy such as Wilhelm Steinitz and the Cuban genius Jose Raul Capablanca. This class will also have an emphasis on calculation, students will be asked to solve longer tactics/puzzles and to do more work in their heads.
